The Choreographer
Biography.
About
Rhys Dennis is a London-born choreographer, performer, researcher and intimacy coordinator of Jamaican and Barbadian heritage. Founder and former Co-Artistic Director of FUBUNATION, he trained at London Contemporary Dance School and the National Film and Television School, focusing on trauma-informed practice and intimacy between Black bodies.
Practice
His practice uses movement to explore Afro-diasporic identity, ritual, memory and collective experience. He has taught across the UK and internationally, including at Rambert, Southbank Centre, FABRIC, Kampnagel/K3 and 4fürTANZ in Germany, Casa SoMovimento in Brazil, and Génération A-Lab in Senegal.
Current Work & Residencies
A former K3 Resident Choreographer and 2026 Instituto Sacatar Fellow, Rhys is preparing for the world premiere of FEAST at Sadler’s Wells in spring 2027.
Selected Credits
His work has been presented at Kampnagel and the V&A, with commissions including Scottish Ballet, Talawa Theatre Company, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Conny Janssen Danst. Screen work includes NOWNESS and WeTransfer.
Recognition & Leadership
Rhys is an Aerowaves Twenty Artist, Lisa Ullmann Travelling Scholarship recipient, and board member of IRIE! Dance Theatre. He was an Arts and Culture Panellist for Kiln Theatre, the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority, and Festival Director of Dance With the Nation in Brent.
